Artslink Magazine another look at art and artists from Italy

Artslink international is an occasional series of arts and cultural magazines produced by participants and collaborators with Charnwood Arts.  The magazines both reflect and initiate new connections between Charnwood, Leicester(shire) and other locations around the globe. Each magazine provides an opportunity for its creator(s) to learn new skills, and share their own and develop new insights into arts and cultural activity with a wider audience.  Each magazine is produced ready for print but initially distributed to a worldwide audience as an e-magazine through iSSUU.com (see the link below).

This issue of Artslink was produced by Anita Zampieri and Ilaria Zampieri two 17 year old summer work placements with Charnwood Arts. The issue focused on artists, art centres/associations and exhibitions across Italy. At its heart, this edition focuses on art fairs and events and the creative activities that are catalysed by them. 

Featured in this magazine were:                                

55th International Art Exhibition Venice Biennale which took place in Venice between June and November 2013 taking the form of trails that run to the Arsenale.  Curated by Massimiliano Gioni, the exhibition theme explored ‘il Palazzo Enciclopedico’ (‘The Encyclopaedic Palace).  

Yuri Ancarani is a video artist and filmmaker originating from Ravenna in northern Italy.  Yuri has made a number of films that have been featured around the world. His work can be characterised as documenting the evolution of human experience beyond the everyday.  

Officina Delle Zattere is one of the exhibition venues in Venice that shows cutting edge contemporary art during the Venice Biennale. The organisation becomes the pavilion for a particular country and works with curators to realise complex installations.  A range of exhibitions are shown over three levels of the venue making it an intrinsic part of the biennale.

Diego Fazio (AKA DiegoKoi) is an artist from Lamezia Tarme, Italy.  His work explores hyper realism through pencil drawing. He creates photo realistic images of a range of subjects by studying the minute details.  Diego is self taught, learning his skills from the internet.  

Ghisa Art Fusion was a multifaceted, multisensory exhibition delivered across a series of three derelict industrial areas in Schio, Italy.  The concept was developed by Metamorfosi Gallery and included a mixture of art, food and music. The theme was ‘The other half of the sky’ characterised as ‘the female universe’. 

Ester Roi is an artist from Vicenza in Northern Italy. Her paintings are characterised by brilliant sharp colours and sharp detail.  The images explore natural objects immersed in water, depicting rock pools and flowers under water. She speaks about inventing the Icarus Drawing Board which is a heated surface for drawing on.

Oltre La Visione was a exhibition shown at Per Piacere in Rome. Through a series of works across two rooms, the exhibition focused on the “relation between man and nature”. The artists taking part were Jazz Buk, Massimo Catalani, Fe Cipriani, Yvonne Delor, Stefania Fabrizi, Isabel Hooft, Angelo Marinelli, Hannu Palosuo, Giuliano Pastori and Andrea Sampaolo.
