Artslink Magazine Looking at art and artists from the UK and FRANCE

Artslink international is an occasional series of arts and cultural magazines produced by participants and collaborators with Charnwood Arts.  The magazines both reflect and initiate new connections between Charnwood, Leicester(shire) and other locations around the globe. Each magazine provides an opportunity for its creator(s) to learn new skills, and share their own and develop new insights into arts and cultural activity with a wider audience.  Each magazine is produced ready for print but initially distributed to a worldwide audience as an e-magazine through iSSUU.com (see the link below).

This issue of Artslink was produced by Melissa Pèbre who was an intern with Charnwood Arts from De Montfort University.   The publication focused on artists, events and organisations in France and the UK.Through a mixture of contrasts and parallels, the magazine picks up on how creativity is inspired by place and place is influenced by people.

A mixture of artists, arts groups, and festivals were featured in the publication, providing a contrast of creative outlooks and approaches. The eight features in the magazine show connections in the arts across the UK and France.

Featured in this magazine were:

The annual Aucard Festival from Tours (France) takes place with a streak of irreverence, in the Les Tourangeaux.  The organisers work hard to keep ticket prices affordable because, the festival is about having fun, which fits with the “rock ‘n’ roll spirit” of Tours.

Elefant from Tours (France) Elefant is a musical project started by Oliver Bataille which performs as both a solo act or as a quartet.  The name was given to throw people off associating it with any particular genre.

Barefoot Festival from Loughborough (UK), Barefoot festival is an annual event taking place on the last weekend in July at Prestwold Hall, Loughborough (UK). Billed as a “hippie reunion”, the event has grown year on year bringing together a rich mix of arts, entertainment and alternative culture.

Brandy Thieves from Leicester (UK), are a ‘Gypsy punk band with soul’ who bring together a mix of influences to create an energetic sound rooted in folk music.

Alexander Riss from France, is a conceptual artist whose work explores the subtleties between reality and fiction and between dreams and nightmares.  Using sculpture, installation and robotics she creates fairytale like artworks that question reality.

Ashokkumar from Leicester (UK), is a multidisciplinary artist exploring human understanding and in particular how we make sense of the world and people around us.

Laura Ghirardello from Glévres (France) is an emerging photographer whose work explores the immediacy of the moment.

Kole Redmile from Barrow-Upon-Soar (UK) is a young photographer who brings together his passion for Parkour and Photography in a series of energetic images. Kale has produced a book of his images with Charnwood Arts.
