A book exploring the founding of a group for young asylum seekers in Loughborough

This book chronicles the development and significance of the ‘Dreamers’ since it was set up in 2002 when youth worker Andrew Lake met Selim, a young Kosovan refugee. Dreamers is a Leicestershire Youth Service project providing support to young asylum seekers and refugees across the county of Leicestershire.

At its core, the publication includes the thoughts and feelings of many young asylum seekers, recorded through conversations by Andrew Lake over the years.     The conversations provide a valuable insight into the human dimension of asylum, well beyond political rhetoric.

As well as providing a brief history of the Dreamers project, Hidden Voices introduces us to real people and their experiences.  The book also addresses many of the myths about refugees, that are propagated by the media. Real life accounts include stories about journeys, feelings of loneliness, the need to seek asylum and above all, the power of hope.
