The 34th Picnic in the Park organised by Charnwood Arts

Charnwood Arts' 2014 Picnic in the Park set out to present two linked themes.

'Over By Christmas' set out to acknowledge the significance of the landmark Carillon building that stands at the heart of Queen's Park. With support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and working within the auspices of the Charnwood Great War Centenary Project, the newly created Tommy Atkin's Folk Band, Bill Brookman Productions and other guests provided an afternoon of entertainment under the ever watchful presence of the memorial to the fallen.

The Carillon Museum and a number of other organisations brought information stalls and information displays and Charnwood Arts created designs seven large banners were created to commemorate the fallen from each small town and village of Charnwood.

'The Grand Bazaar' element of the 2014 Picnic echoed the memory of the post Great War events to raise money for the erection of the war memorial. The activities that were organised to enliven the park then point forward to a long tradition initiated by Charnwood Arts over three decades ago when our first three day 'Picnic in the Park event took place.
